money and awareness for cancer
research
so many people that took part or contributed to bepink have
had their lives touched by cancer in one way or another...
we need to find out what causes it and how to fight it! |
The bepink fundraising
event, was a really successful day, the class was fully booked and
had the maximum that the room and I can cope with (12 students making
jewellery), raising £360 on the day for Cancer Research and
making around 75 pieces of jewellery

| 4/8/2010
- donating a cheque for £360 along with a few of the
jewellery items to Cancer Research in Chorley |
The rest of
the bepink jewellery items will be sold at the 'Centigrade
by Design, Kiln Fired Art Show' at the end of September.
All the money raised from these sales will be donated to Cancer
Research, along with any remaining jewellery items. Thanks to Christine
and Centigrade / Ceramic Artists of Southport for the opportunity
to sell them there and also for making loads of earrings on the
bepink day.

September 2010 - photo of the bepink jewellery at the Centigrade
by Design, Kiln Fired Art Show.
A
number of people attending the show (where money was being
raised for Breast Cancer), helped me in raising funds by
purchasing a piece of bepink jewellery. Also many of the
Southport Ceramic artists have purchased pieces when I've
taken along the bepink pieces to some of the October workshops.
In November, I took along and sold a few pieces of the bepink
jewellery at the Cedar Farm, Pig Barn open morning and also
at a talk/make session at the Fylde women farmers guild.
Although
most of the bepink pieces only sold for a few pounds each,
its all been of help and has raised an extra £240
for Cancer Research.
15/11/2010,
have just been into Cancer Research in Chorley, donating
the money raised from the bepink jewellery sales and given
them the rest of the jewellery. There are about 30 pieces
of jewellery now on sale in the shop, these will hopefully
raise a bit more money.

| the
background to the bepink day
It all came about due to a bit of a health scare at the end of last
year... I decided I wanted to do something to raise some money for
cancer research, and as surviving cancer 9 years ago was the catalyst
for me becoming a teacher, I wanted to use my jewellery teaching
skills. Quite a bit of work went into it; organising the day, buying
all the pink materials, printing posters, leaflets etc, promoting
it and also a bit of worrying that I was going to be running it
with just 3 students! So finally, many thanks to the Ceramic Artists
of Southport group that I belong to that helped to fill the class
up. It was all worth it in the end!!
