1 day jewellery making course

Learn how to make a variety of different types of twisted stems and create a twisted wire style tiara or aliceband. You will be working with beads, wire and plated components.

There is also an optional design in the afternoon - making hairgrips / hairpins.

The designs accommodate different skill levels, as each design can be made using basic skills, but can be developed further by students with intermediate wire skills and students can choose their own level of work depending on how easy they find the techniques.

Twisting wire is a bit fiddly and quite tiring for fingers/hands, take a break when you need one and look at some of the tiara examples, magazines / books or see what the rest of the group have made.

Morning

• Short intro to the beads, wire and components
• Intro to twisted stems / demo & practise
• Intro to further twisted stems / demo & practise
• Intro to various twisted wire style tiara designs & choosing design / stem techniques for your tiara
• Intro to creating twisted stems on your tiara

Afternoon

• Intro to wrapping the tiara base with beads
• Either work further on your tiara or alternatively
• Optional designs: range of twisted wire stem hairgrip / hair pin designs
• Completing any unfinished pieces
• Intro to other types of jewellery courses on offer and course feedback

The day course includes:
some demos, examples, handouts, opportunity for q&a, practical work and 1-1 tutor assistance.

Materials are available and can be purchased on the course (approx £5 - £10, depending on the beads, other material chosen) or you are welcome to bring any of your own materials with you. A materials list will be emailed with the class booking deposit receipt.
