beads and memory wire
1 day jewellery making course

This class is suitable for both beginners and students that have attended any of the other bebeady classes and wish to try out using memory wire to make jewellery. As a material, memory wire is a bit harder to use and so this class is a bit more difficult than some of the other beginner classes.

You will be creating bracelets and necklaces with beads, memory wire and plated components. Also coiled loop earrings and optional pendant/drops.

Morning

  • Brief intro to the tools we will be using, memory wire, beads and components
  • Intro to the technique used to create a 'p' loop
  • Intro to using memory wire to make a wraparound bracelet, various designs and how to finish off the ends
  • Intro to creating a coil loop* and making earrings and optional pendants for the memory wire choker design
  • Intro to choker necklace designs (optional: adding charms) and how to finish of the ends
  • Intro to using jump rings & attaching fasteners

Afternoon

  • Intro to making cuff style bracelet designs
  • Intro to further designs; pendants, earrings and rings using memory wire
  • Opportunity to work further on any of the designs that have been covered during the day
  • Completing any unfinished piece of jewellery
  • Intro to other types of jewellery courses on offer and course feedback

The day course includes:
many demos, examples, some handouts, opportunity for questions and answers, practical work and 1-1 tutor assistance.

*students that have already learnt how to make earrings on a beginner wire course: can choose one of the optional further memory wire designs, ie. rings or earrings/pendants, make another bracelet or browse through jewellery making books/magazines
