Students can bring along their own pliers and cutters or use some
of the tools that the tutor brings each lesson.
Materials are not included, but can be purchased at each course

8 week class, Tuesdays 7-9pm,
class begins 24 January 2012
venue: Lancashire College, Chorley
The theme this
term is wire skills: spiral designs and hooks / clasps.
This class is
suitable for students that have some wire jewellery making skills
and feel reasonably confident using the round nose pliers to make
loops. (beginners plus / continuing wire skills jewellery students).
students will be working with quite small beads and will be
working with their hands to add beads, use tools etc, so good hand
/ arm mobility is required.
A range
of techniques, skills and designs are covered on this course. Students
can choose the amount of pieces / jewellery they make at each lesson
depending on their skill level.
includes:
how to use pliers
to create basic spirals dangles, spiral headpins, further spiral
headpin designs, connector spiral designs, spiral cages - each lesson
choosing jewellery designs to make with their spiral pieces using
whichever type of loops - how to create 'figure of eight' clasps,
basic hooks, earring hooks, earring hooks with beads - choosing
jewellery designs to make with their hooks and clasps.

The theme this
term is wire: charm and multi-section style jewellery designs.
Learn about the tools, wire and other components you will be using
and make a range of jewellery using these materials.
This class will
accommodate various skill levels - from beginners to beginners plus.
Students will be working with quite small beads and will be
working with their hands to add beads, use tools etc, so good hand
/ arm mobility is required.
A range
of techniques, skills and designs are covered on this course. Students
can choose the amount of pieces / jewellery they make at each lesson
depending on their skill level.

basic earrings, how to open and close jump rings, a range of charm
style designs; bag charms, charm pendants, charm bracelets, charm
necklaces and charm earrings, how to add hoops and chain into your
designs to make a range of multi-section jewellery designs.

difference
between the course levels; beginner and beginner plus
The Tuesday evening class has a number of continuing students that
have made different types of jewellery before and are looking at developing
and practising their skills with a range of designs, the pace is set
a bit faster with less step-by-step instructions.
The Wednesday evening class is aimed at beginners and the designs
the first few weeks are easier with more step-by-step instructions
and recapping.
Both courses start of with easier designs the first few weeks, developing
skills and there is the option of working on more intricate/ difficult
jewellery designs as the course progresses. |

Usually
these classes need a minimum of 10 students for the college to run
them.
These courses
are partially funded by the Lancashire County Council, so students
need to be aware that there is some paperwork to complete as part
of the course, mainly to document what you have learnt on the course.
The college also offers the weekly classes free (£10 admin
fee) for students in receipt of certain state benefits. Contact
the college to find out if you would be eligible. |
